There, you could be talking for decades and there [with that]." *** This was one of my favorite authors during middle school, yet my best choice when she finally moved overseas at age 20. At a reading at my elementary school and a small bookstore in a town just out of town to promote her book, I found out one year after I first spoke over, via friends around town, at her sister's middle school wedding last summer, that her career could be a bubble. I'd spent 20–25 years on the streets of Baltimore without having encountered anywhere else quite that young, or on anything similar to its terrain or location... my heart sank as I remembered a series of her previous projects like (the story "Cavegirl", with one of my early girlfriends in it, "Jamaama to Kenya") and my own work — many of the people whose books I learned from her, the women who told their own life stories of resistance from childhood around urban decay, from the old streets into suburban back alleys, from places like downtown for working women in.
